In the tradition of FFXI and Aion static nights, folks have expressed interest in setting up static groups to level through Star Trek Online's content together. So far, I know of these people who expressly said they'd like to play in a static:
Tyas, Astlin, Xylaria, Bamuk, q3bases, q3supply, Tserof, Nefair, Entropius
China or others may be interested, but I've not heard from them as yet.
Because team size is limited to five members, clearly we'll need to have more than one static. That of course doesn't mean you can't group with whom you please whenever, but static characters are intended to level with the group they're in (so would nominally only be played when the static is present). As a result, you may want to consider a second character just for the static.
So, the next question is who is available on what nights? Based on that we'll be able to form up groups of players based on their schedules.
So far, here's the availability I know about :

As for what to bring, I'm not sure it matters so much. While STO does have the trinity (cruiser=tank, escort=dps, science=mage), the ships hold their own pretty well and are quite flexible. So, unless there's a specific need, I'd say make whatever characters you enjoy. We'll iron out what/who/when when everyone's schedule is filled in.

| Mondays are bad (tv distracting) but other than that pick a day or two (not too often grouping wears me out). |

This leaves room for Bamuk and others to join any static they wish when their schedules allow. Furthermore, the various statics can choose to play Federation, Klingon or both (by alternating characters), to be determined among the members.
This leaves Thursday open for expansion / informal group night.
