As folks discover useful tid bits share them here:
Here're a few to start off.
ATI Graphics users: Nasty crash bugs can be avoided by disabling "Dynamic Lighting" in options.
Disable "Click Unselects Target" in UI settings to lower your blood pressure.
Don't put tribbles in the same place as food... unless you want more tribbles and less food.
"V" will scan the area for any interactable object (mission objective/anomolie) and provide a directional indicator for your convenience.
The Exploration missions are the grind missions of STO, but with a perk. Doing sets of explortaions earns you Exploration Merits which can be turned in for rarer gear for ship and crew at Stardock.
Don't forget you can move in reverse--useful for positioning or mainting arc and steerage. Don't stay in reverse forever as this adversely affects power levels.

Well now that I have power back after the horrible snow storm I can't seem to stay in the game for very long. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes into playing and i get a message saying there has been a cryptic error and the game closes. I have searched the forums and have tried every fix I can find and still no luck. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or can think of a solution. I have disabled postprocessing and dynamic lighting, have lowered settings to low and even tried the /maxfps command and set it to 30. I anyone has any thoughts i would be very grateful.

| Hi there, China! The normal rules apply (make sure you've got the latest video / sound drivers). What sort of video card do you have, and do you have a sense of a pattern of crashes (i.e., are you doing similar things when the game crashes, or does it seem to happen at random times and places?) |

Thanks Doc!
I have a gforce 9800GT and all drivers are up do date, as a matter of fact even rolled video driver back because I saw some people mentioning that the newest driver could be causing some problems. When I saw no change with the roll back I went ahead and reinstalled the newest driver.
As for discerning any pattern, I am not really seeing one while in space. There it just seems to happen 5-10 minutes into gameplay, however I did just reach to point where I beam down to Vega (I think) and as soon as I materialize the error occurs. I have tried logging in 5 times now and I crash almost immediately.

| Could you post a dxdiag.txt of your system? Go to command prompt and run "dxdiag" Then, Click "Save all information" and take the resulting text file and copy past it here |

Looks like your audio drivers are a couple years out of date (Realtek HD Audio). Also might look at the "Acceleration" level in the auto control--looks like it's been turn down. You might try turning it up or down to see if it improves things.
Also might update your G15 drivers (STO tries to use the G15 display if available). |
